Can you hear that, postal people? The faint humming in the air? For some of you, it may be a small crunkling sound, almost as if an envelope were being opened with great haste. At times, the sound seems to be growing louder, but never so loud that it obscures all else. What could it possibly be, this thing that seems to always be running in the background?
It’s the sound of your brain telling you that there’s something you should be remembering, something that is incredibly important (details, details!) but easily forgotten (oh grey matter, where art thou?).
That’s why I’m here to help you.
There are things which I’m always running out of: tape, glue sticks, red & airmail blue bakery twine. Usually, the “running out” happens at the worst possible time — long after the stores have closed, and all the employees are tucked snugly in bed. That’s why I want to remind you: buy more glue sticks.
You see, you may think that it will never happen to you — how could it? You shopped the super-saver sale after Thanksgiving and picked up more wrapping/shipping/crafting supplies than you thought you’d ever need. But here’s the thing: your roomate/husband/daughter/next door neighbor needed to “borrow” some of your goodies (you do have a reputation for having the chic-est wrapping paper in the ‘hood…) and now it’s December 23rd. And raining. You’re unable to locate the necessary item amongst your other extremely necessaries. This means you will be braving the crowds in order to get more double-stick tape.
So: here’s what I think you should do. Consider your three most important tools, when it comes to “making”. Perhaps it’s the treasured vintage Swingline stapler or a particular fountain pen. Maybe you’ll be designing a fabulous christmas card at home this year (inkjet cartridges, anyone?). Whatever your three items are, make sure you have more than enough. The seasonal buzzword: stockpile!
And of course, because we’re all people-who-love-to-send-post: make sure you have more than enough postage stamps! Because really : would you want to revert to vending machine postage?
I didn’t think so.
Five days left my friends — then, the Christmas rush is officially over! Once the big day arrives, we can relax and truly raise our cups in Christmas cheer…
