Last week on the twitter, I mentioned that I had a top-secret, a bit of something that I couldn’t yet share. Well, now I can spill the beans! Excitement of great excitements, my PO box has been featured as a “Design Destination” by the website Felt & Wire!
If you’re unfamiliar with Felt & Wire, go there immediately. I mean it: drop it all, and head over there. I can hear you now — you’re asking why. And I reply: this week has been a “Week of Envelope-ments” (truly!), wherein they have featured letterwriters and corresponders of all types and kinds, enticing envelopes, and the handwritten word.
Of course, writing a web article means that a girl needs photos. And photos mean Von Span, the photographer of visual tasty-ness that is “Good Mail Day“. We descended on the PO, and shot some snaps on the fly, guerilla style. Technically, I think photos are verboten in a PO, but we played it cool… (does anyone know if this is true?)
(“Mail Postcard Now” by Mr. Jazz; red postcard in the foreground by GMD’s graphic designer,
These are some of the outtakes from the photo shoot, which I thought you guys would like to see. Some of you have also asked me what an “average” day looks like for my mailbox — these pics offer up a pretty good idea. Usually there are 2-3 pieces of GMD mail — all other incoming mail is the result of several years spent networking with mail artists from here, there, and everywhere.
All in all, it’s truly been a red letter day! And here’s a bonus for you, dear readers: head over to Felt and Wire in the next 24 hours (by 5pm, Sat. 11.06.10) and leave a comment for them re: the article. Each comment will receive a little bit of postal love from me! (make sure I have your mailing addy: email to firstname.lastname@example.org)
Have a wunderkammer weekend!
