mail slot from SF estate sale
Last summer, the Baron and I found our knick-knack starved selves at another estate sale, this time in SF’s Telegraph Hill ‘hood. While the sale had little to offer in the way of ephemeric treasure, I quickly snapped the building’s mail slot on the way out…

PS: later in the week: a run-down of teaching those “Mail Art 101″ and Mail Art 202″ classes at SFCB…
By quite a coincidence, the Flickr blog just posted some lovely mailbox images today:

Miss V. — I’m going to hop right over and take a look! It’s funny how the collective unconscious works, no?
Finally bought the paint for our new mailbox. Maybe we will get it done in the next month. You are going to LOVE it – of all people.
Alright, here’s the deal: I want you to go outside !right now! paint it up, and send me a pic. This VERY instant…

I did start working on it today. I am having a manic moment where stuff is getting done. Maybe by the end of the week.
It says I am posting at 11:15pm. What timezone do you have this set to or is it me?
It’s just to vex you…
heh heh heh…

i just went to an estate sale on saturday
it was in the mission and the home was of an italian family. the kitchen was teeny and cute. and there was tons of old letters, some that were written in italian! i bought a few plus a unused, practically new hardcover ledger book that was originally from woolworths.
Miss Annie!
This sounds like a wonderful sale, a real jewel of SF history! And we can both thrill to the fact that garage sale season is starting up, here in SF!
J – Kuhnsider yourself invited to come admire my Holton’s Visible Glass Mailbox from the early 1900s. It leapt into my arms one day several years ago when I was at Timeless Treasures in SF. The tag notes, “Found in Missouri. Said to be from a house built in 1916 in St. Joseph, MO.” Measures 10 x 5 x 3.5, and I use it indoors for envelopes on their way to the PO. My favorite detail is MAIL embossed in big letters.
Miss K. — this is an incredible sounding treasure, and one that (I imagine) will find it’s own perfect spot among the other well-chosen objets in your abode. I had no idea that such a thing as a glass mailbox even existed! It seems to me like the Cinderella slipper of all things postal-ish and correspondence-y. Congratulations on finding such a rare bird!
